Overview
The Operating Room (OR) Attendant supports professional staff in caring for the surgical patient. This role involves transporting patients from inpatient/emergency room/ICU to the pre-op holding area, cleaning operating room suites between procedures, and supporting anesthesia staff by stocking supplies, cleaning anesthesia machines, and transporting anesthesia machines and carts. OR Attendants may also transport specimens and blood products to and from the lab and ensure proper stocking of formalin containers used for specimen handling and transport. They assist in positioning surgical patients under the guidance of professional OR staff and help prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies onto the sterile field and ensuring the appropriate equipment is available for the procedure.
Shift Rotating — 6-2:30, 9:30-6, 11-7 plus call. 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts.
Education HSD/GED Required
Certification/Licensure American Heart Saver AED/CPR Required Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire
Experience No experience required Prior Environmental Services or operating room experience preferred

About Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, located in Norfolk, VA, is a 525-bed tertiary care facility with the region’s only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit.
