Houghton University’s Department of Education invites applications for a full-time position in Teacher Education at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach 2–4 undergraduate courses per semester at either the childhood (grades 1-6) or adolescent (grades 7-12) level, depending on area of specialization. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in literacy, inclusion, instructional methods, or workshop-based licensure courses, as well as potential work related to state licensure and accreditation. Teaching will take place in person, with occasional online teaching opportunities. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, supervision of student teachers, departmental collaboration, service to the college, and engagement in scholarly activity.
The Education department at Houghton University consists of an experienced community of faculty who are passionate about preparing teachers to teach in a variety of diverse and inclusive schools in service to others. Houghton University’s teacher licensure programs require all students to complete an intensive field experience prior to a full semester of Student Teaching, locally or globally. Full Time and Part Time faculty directly supervise students, both face and face, and via video technology using GoReact. The Education Department also offers two Master’s degrees: a fully online Master of Science (M.S. ED) degree in Literacy Education, allowing many of our undergraduate students to complete graduate courses prior to completing their undergraduate degree, and a fully online Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T) Adolescent Education (7-12) degree.
Starting salary will be dependent on the candidate’s qualifications and experience

Required qualifications
a master’s degree in education
at least 3 years of K12 teaching experience
a mature Christian faith and the ability to integrate Christian faith into teaching
strong communication and interpersonal skills
strong organizational skills, with attention to detail
an interest and willingness to support and mentor undergraduate students
Preferred qualifications
Hold a terminal degree (EdD or PhD)
Possess current teaching credentials
Have training or experience in the Science of Reading (SoR)
Have training or experience in inclusion and/or special education
