Full-Time Description:

The Chemistry Department at Hofstra University (www.hofstra.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Biochemistry beginning September 1, 2026. Any area spanning experimental biochemistry will be considered. Successful candidates will be able to teach biochemistry courses (lecture and lab), general chemistry courses (lecture and lab) and will have the opportunity to teach other courses in their area of expertise. A typical teaching load alternates between 2 and 3 courses per semester. The Chemistry Department serves only undergraduate students, with small class sizes (10-20) for junior and senior majors. The Chemistry Department offers undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry (with ACS accreditation), as well as Forensic Science.

In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to establish a vibrant research program centered on undergraduates and seek grant funding. Intra- and extramural research collaborations are strongly encouraged. The candidate will also provide service to the department, college, and university. Experience advising and mentoring undergraduate students and individuals from groups underrepresented in STEM fields is highly desirable.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in biochemistry or related field required by time of employment. Potential to establish a successful research program involving undergraduate students. Experience teaching undergraduate biochemistry/chemistry courses. Preferred Quals Summary:

Postdoctoral or industry work experience preferred. Previous experience mentoring undergraduate students. Recent peer-reviewed publications. Instructor-of-record for undergraduate chemistry course(s).
