Job Summary The HR Manager is responsible for leading the human resources function, ensuring compliance with labor laws, company policies, and collective bargaining agreements (CBA), if applicable. This role serves as a strategic partner to facility leadership, driving workforce planning, labor relations, employee engagement, talent acquisition, performance management, and compliance to support business objectives. The HR Manager will also play a key role in fostering a high-performance culture while mitigating risks.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred – or equivalent professional experience.
7+ years of HR experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including at least 2 years in a unionized setting (if applicable).
Experience in collective bargaining, workforce planning, HR compliance, and talent management required.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Strong knowledge of labor laws (NLRA, FLSA, OSHA, FMLA, ADA) and CBA interpretation, where applicable.
Experience managing union negotiations, grievance handling, and employee relations, where applicable.
Proficiency in HRIS systems, timekeeping software (e.g., Success Factors, UKG/UltiPro), and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to analyze HR metrics to identify trends and drive process improvements.
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR, Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP) or other union/labor relations certifications a plus.
Job Responsibilities Workforce Planning & Talent Development
Drive workforce planning to ensure talent meets operational needs.
Lead succession and pipeline planning for future leadership.
Coordinate training, apprenticeships, and upskilling.
Coach managers to strengthen leadership capabilities.
Employee Relations & Engagement
Handle escalated employee concerns and promote resolution.
Promote inclusive culture and encourage feedback.
Implement engagement and retention strategies.
Lead surveys and action plans to improve morale.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Partner with GBS to align recruiting with workforce needs.
Manage full-cycle recruitment.
Refine onboarding for smooth new hire transitions.
Ensure recruitment aligns with internal processes.
Participate in interviews at the plant.
Performance Management
Lead performance appraisals aligned with Hydro and CBA.
Support managers in goal setting and feedback.
Manage performance issues per Hydro policies.
Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations
Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
Partner with Shared Services and cross-functional teams.
Manage benefits and leave per legal standards.
Support recognition programs for performance.
Optimize HR systems for efficiency and compliance.
Strategic HR Leadership
Align HR with business goals.
Lead org development and restructuring efforts.
Analyze HR metrics and report KPIs.
Support change management and continuous improvement.
Compliance
Ensure legal and policy compliance.
Conduct audits and enforce HR policies.
Safeguard employee data and confidentiality.
Labor Relations
Manage union relations and disputes.
Ensure CBA compliance.
Lead bargaining and prepare proposals.
Conduct investigations and apply policies consistently.
Manage CBA-related performance issues.
Administer benefits and leave per CBA/legal standards.
