Role description The HR Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic and operational partner to plant leadership, supporting all aspects of human resources in a unionized folding carton manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for employee relations, labor relations, talent management, workforce planning, and compliance. The HRBP plays a key role in fostering a high-performance culture, ensuring alignment with collective bargaining agreements, and driving continuous improvement across the plant.

Key Responsibilities

Labor Relations – Serve as the primary HR contact for union-related matters; interpret and ensure compliance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA); partner with plant leadership and union representatives to resolve grievances and disputes; prepare for and participate in contract negotiations and labor-management meetings; maintain documentation related to grievances, arbitration, and disciplinary actions; support union contract administration and ensure consistent application of policies.

Employee Relations & Engagement – Build strong relationships with employees and leaders to promote a positive work environment; address employee concerns and conduct investigations as needed; lead initiatives to improve employee morale, retention, and engagement.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning – Collaborate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and support recruitment efforts; ensure hiring practices align with CBA provisions and company policies; support onboarding and orientation for hourly and salaried employees.

Performance Management & Development – Guide leaders through performance management processes, including coaching and corrective actions; identify training needs and coordinate development programs; support succession planning and career development initiatives.

HR Operations & Compliance – Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as company policies; maintain accurate HR records and support internal and external audits; monitor HR metrics and provide insights to leadership.

Culture & Change Management – Promote company values and drive cultural alignment across the plant; support organizational change initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a unionized manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of labor relations, employment law, and HR best practices.

Proven ability to manage complex employee and labor relations issues.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience with grievance handling, arbitration, and contract negotiations.

SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar certification.
