Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of? At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Controller to join our finance team, focusing on Prime Financing and Capital Markets operations. This role drives the accurate and compliant accounting for complex digital asset lending, borrowing, derivatives, and other structured products. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical accounting knowledge (US GAAP/IFRS), a strong understanding of traditional capital markets products and prime financing, and a proven ability to apply these principles to the cryptocurrency landscape. You will help build scalable processes, ensure robust internal controls, and provide financial analysis for expanding institutional offerings. In-person participation is required throughout the year, with team and company-wide offsites held multiple times annually to foster collaboration and alignment. Attendance is expected and supported. Responsibilities

Develop and maintain accounting processes for prime financing and capital markets, ensuring GAAP/IFRS compliance and crypto-specific guidance. Apply standards such as ASC 815, ASC 860, and ASC 825 to activities including crypto lending/borrowing, derivatives, and prime brokerage services. Oversee accurate and timely recording of transactions, including interest, trading gains/losses, fees, and collateral movements. Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements for prime financing and capital markets. Design and maintain SOX-compliant internal controls, addressing crypto-specific risks like custody, smart contracts, and private key management. Collaborate with Product, Risk, and Legal teams to assess accounting implications of new products and ensure proper system setup. Identify opportunities to automate and improve accounting processes using blockchain data and external tools. Conduct P&L and balance sheet analysis, support audits, and stay updated on regulatory requirements impacting digital asset services. Assist in preparing regulatory filings and disclosures for prime financing and capital markets. Manage and mentor accounting teams, foster cross-department collaboration, and lead projects related to financial infrastructure and new product launches. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation required. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 4–5 years in prime brokerage, capital markets, or complex financial instruments accounting within a financial institution (e.g., investment bank, hedge fund, broker-dealer). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to navigate ambiguity and apply accounting principles to novel crypto transactions. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex accounting issues to technical and non-technical audiences. Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with SOX compliance within a financial services context. Proficiency with large ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Google Suite skills. Nice to have
