Fiber & Copper Data Center Technician at Total Deployment Solutions
Overview
We are hiring a Fiber & Copper Data Center Technician to oversee the quality control of cable labeling and organization within our data center environments. This role is critical to ensuring that all fiber (including MPO-8 breakouts) and Cat6 copper cabling is labeled, bundled, and staged according to strict standards. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for detail, technical knowledge of fiber and copper infrastructure, and the ability to communicate clearly with technicians, leads, and project managers. Responsibilities
Inspect fiber and Cat6 cables to ensure correct labeling format, placement, and durability. Verify that MPO breakout labels match the documented patch schedules and polarity configurations. Confirm copper cabling (Cat6) terminations are labeled and installed per floor plans and port maps. Ensure cables are bundled neatly, consistently, and in compliance with bend-radius and pathway guidelines. Check routing paths for proper separation of fiber and copper, use of Velcro (no over-tightening), and logical grouping by destination or rack. Complete QA/QC checklists, noting all discrepancies and corrective actions required. Take clear photos of non-compliant work and provide before/after records when issues are corrected. Maintain logs of inspected zones, bundle groups, and cable types for handoff to project stakeholders. Work directly with cabling technicians and leads to provide immediate feedback on issues. Escalate repeated errors, labeling inconsistencies, or deviations from project documentation. Participate in team huddles or walk-throughs to explain QC expectations and results. Requirements
1+ years experience in a structured cabling, low-voltage QA/QC, or data center infrastructure environment. OSHA 10/30 certification Strong knowledge of fiber cabling (especially MPO breakout types) and Cat6 standards. Familiarity with ANSI/TIA-568 labeling practices and project-specific labeling conventions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills – must be able to clearly document issues and collaborate with field teams. High attention to detail and a commitment to documentation accuracy. Able to read and interpret rack elevations, patch schedules, and cable matrices. Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 40lbs. Preferred Qualifications
BICSI certification or formal low-voltage QA/QC training. Proficiency with mobile documentation tools (Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, PlanGrid, etc.). Job Details
