Job Summary: This posting is for current internal ADHS applicants only. The position involves work within the Quality Assurance and Improvement Office, and the Laboratory Licensure and Certification Office. It includes licensing activities for laboratories (Medical Marijuana, Environmental, Clinical) and maintaining current licenses (EPA, CLIA, ISO / IEC) for ASPHL, ensuring proficiency, methodology, quality assurance, operation, and safety standards are met. It also includes conducting inspections to determine compliance with statutes or rules, reviewing quality systems, tracking documents and corrective actions, and investigating laboratory operations as needed.
This position may require travel or attendance at meetings at alternate locations, including in-state or out-of-state travel, possibly requiring a state, personal, or rented vehicle.
Responsibilities
Perform inspections of laboratories to determine compliance with statutes, rules, and internal procedures.
Monitor and review quality systems for specific disciplines; track documents, corrective actions, and other quality data.
Participate in and/or lead staff, advisory committee, and laboratory organization meetings (e.g., APHL, AOAC).
Develop standard and ad hoc reports, templates, dashboards, and other performance-related metrics.
Set up and lead inspections.
Respond to feedback from clients on services and independently conduct investigations when issues or complaints arise.
Schedule and oversee training for new employees and provide advice and guidance to lower-level workers.
Correlate with regulated labs and regulatory bodies; respond to technical questions, develop standards, engage in rule-making, and conduct laboratory inspections.
Prepare, review, and finalize investigative or inspection reports, statements of deficiencies, and related correspondence.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge Of:
Federal regulations and Arizona Revised Statutes related to laboratory testing and related procedures; laboratory management concepts; safety precautions when handling infectious agents and hazardous materials; applicability of QA/QC concepts, PM, CQI, and Lean methodologies.
Skill In:
Reading professional literature, strong oral and written communication, analytical review, interpersonal skills, active listening, organization, evaluation, and training.
Ability To:
Change priorities as issues arise, problem-solve (root cause), work independently, review laboratory testing, analyze data, report findings, and evaluate analyst qualifications; provide compliance data and support a diverse, inclusive workforce.
Selective Preferences Minimum Bachelor's degree in laboratory science plus 5+ years of experience appropriate/relevant in the chemistry field, or LCO I plus 2+ years of inspection experience.
