$80,000.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to play a crucial role in our Finance & Accounting team. This position will be responsible for analyzing costs across our diverse operations (cultivation, manufacturing, retail), providing valuable insights to management for informed decision-making, and ensuring the accuracy of our inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS). The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of cost accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment. Experience in a vertically integrated business model is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Analysis

Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and procedures for all operational stages, including cultivation/sourcing, manufacturing, production, distribution, and retail. Collect, analyze, and interpret cost data related to raw materials, labor, overhead, and other expenses. Prepare detailed cost reports and analyses, including variance analysis (actual vs. standard/budget), to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. Assist in the development and maintenance of standard costs for all products and processes. Analyze and report on production costs, including yield analysis, material usage, and labor efficiency. Track and analyze distribution costs, including transportation, warehousing, and logistics. Monitor and analyze retail operational costs, including store expenses and sales margins. Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of journal entries and reconciliations related to inventory and COGS.

Inventory Management

Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle counts to ensure the accuracy of inventory records. Analyze inventory valuation and costing methods across different stages of the supply chain. Identify and report on slow-moving or obsolete inventory. Ensure compliance with inventory accounting policies and procedures.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Assist in the development of annual budgets related to cost of goods sold and operational expenses. Provide cost data and analysis to support the Budget Manager in the forecasting process. Monitor actual costs against budget and provide explanations for variances. Process Improvement & Compliance: Identify and recommend improvements to cost accounting processes and internal controls. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. Participate in cross-functional teams to support operational efficiency and cost reduction initiatives.

Reporting & Communication

Prepare ad-hoc cost analyses and reports as requested by management. Communicate cost-related information effectively to various stakeholders across the organization. Present findings and recommendations to management in a clear and concise manner.

Technical Skills & Abilities

Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, inventory valuation methods (FIFO, weighted average), and standard costing. Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced skills in Microsoft. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent time management skills Ability to multi-task Coachable, highly motivated, and driven to succeed. Possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter.

Education & Experience

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. A college degree in accounting or a related field is preferred but not required. 5 + years of progressive experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing or vertically integrated environment

Requirements

Must be over 21 years of age. Available for on-site operations work Monday-Friday. Work revolves around objectives, projects, and priorities- not hours; must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed. Prolonged periods of standing, sitting at a desk, and/or working on a computer. Be able to stand, bend, kneel, squat, and twist for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift 10 lbs. to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet, with or without mechanical assistance. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
