Position Summary The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for managing and supporting the end-to-end payroll tax compliance process for multi-state payroll operations. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, oversees the preparation and reconciliation of tax filings, leads payroll tax audits, and provides guidance to the payroll tax team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll tax, along with high analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of payroll tax compliance, including review and reconciliation of federal, state, and local tax filings (e.g., 941s, W-2s).
Establish and maintain tax agency accounts and SUI rates across multiple jurisdictions.
Manage employee tax setups and changes due to relocations or address updates.
Reconcile payroll tax reports after each payroll to ensure accurate filings.
Ensure timely submission of payroll tax filings on weekly, quarterly, and annual bases.
Lead responses to payroll tax inquiries, audits, and correspondence from tax authorities.
Develop and implement internal controls, processes, and policies related to payroll taxes.
Prepare payroll records related to terminations and coordinate with payroll processing teams.
Provide leadership and technical support to the payroll tax team on daily tasks and projects.
Monitor updates from tax authorities and update systems and processes accordingly.
Collaborate with Payroll, HR, and Finance teams to ensure accuracy and alignment.
Qualifications
At least 4 years of experience in multi-state payroll and tax compliance.
Experience with ADP Smart Compliance is a plus.
Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong organizational abilities.
Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Leadership experience in a team setting.
