Overview
Ensures Guthrie campuses are safe and secure for patients, employees, and visitors by patrolling buildings and grounds and responding to requests for assistance. Reports to the Regional Coordinator for Security or their designee. Applicants must be willing to submit to fingerprinting for a background check.
Education, License & Cert
- Classroom training in a field relevant to security functions with course work in the behavioral sciences strongly preferred.
- New York site requires NYS registration as security guard.
- Valid Drivers License required.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency preferred.
Experience
- One or more years of experience in institutional security, preferably in a health care facility or similar setting.
- Working knowledge of the hospital or health care facility departmental functions.
- Working knowledge of state and federal security regulations affecting hospitals.
- Ability to interact effectively with people and excellent communication skills.
Essential Functions
- Trustworthy in safeguarding confidential information and maintain a neat, professional appearance; may work rotating shifts including nights, evenings, days, holidays, weekends, or other shifts; overtime may be required.
- Act in a courteous and friendly manner toward patients, visitors, employees and all personnel.
- Competencies may be updated as technology and patient care requirements evolve, as designated by the Regional Security Coordinator.
- Patrol the campus and grounds to ensure open departments are secure, closed departments are locked, and perimeter entrances and exits are secure at designated hours; maintain high visibility in the hospital emergency department.
- Assist in transporting patients within the building or to and from vehicles as requested by nursing personnel; respond promptly to calls for assistance; observe for unsafe conditions and report them to supervision.
- Restrain patients, visitors or employees when necessary to protect personnel or property, or as advised by nursing personnel.
- Complete detailed incident reports; complete a minimum of eight hours of continuing education per year on security related issues.
- Coordinate tasks across departments to maximize quality of service and efficiency; assist co workers; establish and maintain relationships with local police and fire officials.
- Demonstrate good judgment, assess situations, consider alternatives, and consult with supervisor as appropriate; attend annual update and departmental meetings.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality; comply with annual physical assessment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Duties
- Travel for this position is sometimes required.
- Infection Control Procedures, Safety Fire Disaster OSHA Policies and Procedures Departmental Administrative Human Resources Emergency Preparedness.

Pay rate ranges from 17.00 - 25.80 per hour.
