Summary
The Assistant Production Director provides strategic and operational leadership for all manufacturing and production activities within the solar module facility. This role serves as the right hand to the Production Director, ensuring efficient production planning, process optimization, cost control, and workforce development across multiple production areas. The Assistant Production Director will oversee Production Managers and drive excellence in safety, quality, and performance in alignment with company goals and international solar manufacturing standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Partner with the Production Director to develop and execute strategic production plans, objectives, and policies that ensure the company meets output, quality, and profitability goals.
- Lead and support Production Managers and Supervisors across all shifts, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee all aspects of production planning, scheduling, and performance monitoring to ensure timely fulfillment of customer orders and efficient resource utilization.
- Drive process improvement initiatives focused on lean manufacturing, waste reduction, and increased productivity.
- Monitor production metrics, analyze operational data, and provide performance reports to executive leadership.
- Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to resolve production challenges, improve product yield, and ensure compliance with technical standards.
- Lead efforts in developing and implementing best practices for PV module or solar cell production processes, including quality assurance and process control.
- Manage budgets for labor, materials, and capital expenditures within the production department.
- Develop and implement workforce training programs to strengthen technical knowledge, leadership capability, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ensure strict compliance with EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) regulations, internal policies, and company standards.
- Act as a liaison between the Production Director and other operational departments to align production goals with company objectives.
- Represent the production function in key meetings, audits, and customer or stakeholder visits when required.
- Lead or support key capital projects, equipment commissioning, and facility expansion initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Production Director or executive leadership.
Education / Experience / Skills
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related discipline required.
- Master’s degree in Operations Management, Business Administration, or Engineering preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing or production operations, with at least 5 years in the solar industry (PV cell or module production strongly preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a senior production management or equivalent role overseeing multiple production lines or departments.
- Proven track record in operational excellence, continuous improvement, and leading diverse teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of PV cell/module manufacturing processes, including lamination, soldering, and quality testing.
- Strong background in Lean, Six Sigma, and other process optimization methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams across multiple shifts.
- Strong analytical and strategic planning abilities with proven success in budget management and performance optimization.
- Bilingual (English/Mandarin) highly preferred to support effective communication in a multicultural manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, data analytics tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
