Role Overview:
The HR Generalist plays a critical role in managing core HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, personnel file management, and compliance with California labor laws. This position ensures accurate and timely documentation of personnel records, supports staffing needs through effective recruitment processes, and serves as the first point of contact for employees regarding HR-related matters.
Recruitment & Staffing
- Post job ads on recruiting platforms (Indeed, LinkedIn, etc.) and manage applicant flow.
- Screen resumes and conduct initial phone screenings to identify qualified candidates.
- Schedule and coordinate interviews with hiring managers.
- Support hiring managers in candidate evaluation and selection.
- Draft and send offer letters, background checks, and onboarding paperwork.
Personnel File Management
Maintain up-to-date personnel files for all employees in compliance with company policies and state/federal laws.
- Track certifications, TB tests, RBT credentials, CPR/First Aid, and required trainings.
- Ensure documents are properly filed, secure, and HIPAA compliant.
- Audit files regularly and flag missing or expired documentation.
- Employee Relations & Compliance
- Act as the first point of contact for employee questions related to policies, benefits, and workplace issues.
- Provide guidance to employees and supervisors on HR policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with California labor law (meal/rest breaks, exempt vs. non-exempt classifications, overtime, PTO).
- Support investigations into employee complaints or policy violations.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Onboarding & Orientation
- Conduct new hire orientations, reviewing policies, benefits, and expectations.
- Coordinate with Operations for uniforms, iPads, and supplies for new hires.
- Ensure completion of all required forms (I-9, W-4, consents, etc.) within deadlines.
- Monitor completion of required trainings during onboarding.
Benefits & Payroll Support
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment, eligibility, and questions.
- Support payroll processing by maintaining accurate employee data in HRIS.
- Partner with Accounting for payroll adjustments and verification.
Reporting & HR Projects
- Generate HR reports (e.g., turnover, recruitment status, compliance tracking).
- Assist with policy updates, handbook revisions, and compliance audits.
- Contribute to HR programs such as employee recognition, wellness initiatives, and culture-building activities.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
2–4 years of HR experience with recruitment and personnel file management.
Knowledge of California labor laws and HR best practices.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
Preferred:
HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) a plus.
Experience in ABA therapy, healthcare, or education settings.
Bilingual (English/Spanish or other).
