Overview
Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director (AD) of Sports Performance, the Strength and Conditioning Coach will serve as an integral member of the Athletic Department’s multidisciplinary Performance Team and will directly communicate and collaborate with head coaches, assistant strength and conditioning coaches, team physicians, athletic trainers, dietitian, sport psychologist and other exercise science and allied health personnel to deliver comprehensive, practical and evidence based performance optimization strategies that foster an environment for injury prevention, performance enhancement, recovery, and reconditioning.
Responsibilities
- Lead, evaluate, and supervise the daily operations of the strength and conditioning program; facilitate comprehensive movement assessments; supervise, design and implement periodized strength and conditioning programs that reduce injury, enhance performance, and ensure safe equipment usage.
- Emphasize implementation, supervision, and teaching progressions for resistance training, cardiovascular training, speed, plyometrics, flexibility and functional movement; conduct routine Bod Pod body composition assessments; utilize Force Plate and GPS technology and create daily GPS reports; maintain accurate electronic records for each team and student-athlete to monitor progress.
- Lead collaboration with coaches and sports medicine staff on performance screening and rehabilitation plans; advocate for the high-performance model within the Athletic Department for assigned teams; ensure nutrition plans are carried out in collaboration with the dietitian.
- Communicate, collaborate, and interact with coaches, athletic trainers, administrative staff, and Towson Research Academy of Collaborative Sport Science to apply evidence-based practice for strength and conditioning.
- Understand and comply with all department policies and procedures, NCAA and Coastal Athletic Association rules and regulations; promote the Athletic Department’s mission and values.
- Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures, including CPR/AED and first aid; comply with Towson University conditioning policies and procedures and support catastrophic injury prevention.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant AD of Sports Performance.
The work hours for this position may include weekends depending on competitive season and team schedules, as well as some evenings based on team competitions.
Qualifications And Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- One year of strength & conditioning experience
- CSCS or CSCC certification (please include on application)
- CPR, AED, First Aid certification (please include on application)
- Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge base in sports performance and injury prevention program development of the collegiate athletics population
- Experience in GPS monitoring technology and workload tracking for practice planning purposes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to student-athlete wellbeing, and health & safety in a competitive environment
- Ability to collaborate in developing a holistic sports performance model
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sport Science, Nutrition or related fields
- Experience at the NCAA Division I collegiate or professional sports level
- Experience working with field-based sports
- Experience with energy system development
Salary and Benefits
Targeted hiring range is $55,000 – 60,000 and full University benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission. TU also offers a variety of great perks and discounts.
