Overview

CYP Child and Youth Program Training and Curriculum Specialist – Navy Region Southwest Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR). Summary: Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP) offers high quality early care and youth services in center-based (birth - five), facility-based (age 5-12), and recreational environments (teen; youth sports and fitness). The Training and Curriculum Specialist facilitates learning and professional development of CYP employees, including new hire orientation; ensures The Creative Curriculum is implemented; and works across all CYP components. Responsibilities

Orients new employees to the whole CYP system and provides basic information applicable in all settings. Works with CYP Directors to establish training plans and schedules for employee and provider training; arranges total CYP training opportunities including training of management, administration, food service, and direct staff. Provides training appropriate for and tailored to the age group of the children and youth served by CYP employees and CDH providers. Executes the Department of Navy (DoN) Standardized Module Training; provides initial and ongoing annual training; ensures training supports career progression; arranges for subject matter experts to conduct or support specialized training. Ensures completion and documentation of required monthly training; collaborates with CY Program Assistants to ensure modules are completed. Identifies additional training needs; maintains training records and individual development plans; prepares training status reports and recommendations to supervisors; notifies CYP Directors of training status and performance. Develops programs encouraging continuing higher education by documenting requirements for the Child Development Associate (CDA) or Military School-Age Credential (MSA) and guiding employees and providers toward college-level coursework. Assists the CDH Director and CDH Monitors to encourage providers toward accreditation; develops relationships with local colleges, universities and professional organizations to advise on continuing professional development. Classroom/Program Support

Ensures the required Navy curriculum is implemented within each CYP, supports implementation and execution of the Navy standardized curriculum within the Child Development Center (CDC); assists CY Program Assistants and Leaders by documenting observations and assessments, evaluating classroom environments, reviewing weekly activity plans, and providing additional training as needed. Coordinates programming that supports physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development of children and youth across settings and durations of care. Ensures quality and consistency of developmental programming, including environment, equipment, materials, program structure, curriculum, risk management, and scheduling/lesson plan oversight. Models appropriate behaviors and techniques when working with children and youth. Observes program settings during all hours of operation to assess competency and direct training needs; provides feedback to employees and supervisors. Evaluates classroom or activity area environments with CY Program Assistants and Leaders and provides recommendations for developmentally appropriate toys, materials, and equipment. Maintains a resource file library to aid lesson planning and training objectives; reviews lesson plans for curriculum alignment and provides daily assistance as needed. Assists in developing and supporting parent education and parent participation programs. Compliance

Provides training to CYP employees to ensure compliance with fire, safety, and sanitation rules and regulations. Supports CYP employees and CDH providers in preparing for inspections and accreditation; ensures adherence to EEO policies. Additional Responsibilities

In the absence of the CYP Director, may assume CYP Director responsibilities; incumbent is a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy for suspected child abuse or neglect. Performs other duties as assigned; a complete list of duties and responsibilities will be provided at the time of hire. Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent; complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation bodies used in DoD CYP. Undergo pre-employment and random drug testing; a positive result or failure to test may be grounds for removal. Pass a pre-employment physical, provide immunization evidence, be free of communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunizations. Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at time of application. Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment. Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of a background investigation. Qualifications

Resumes must demonstrate experience and knowledge, skills, and abilities related to this position; applicants should be clear and specific when describing KSAs. Knowledge, skill, and ability to manage a developmentally appropriate program for the served age groups; knowledge of child and youth programs, including principles of child and youth development. Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing detection and prevention of child abuse and/or neglect; knowledge of accreditation criteria (NAEYC, COA, NAFCC) and related DoD certification standards. Knowledge of motivating and engaging individuals and groups; skill in planning, organizing, and implementing programs; ability to develop curriculum outlines, lesson plans, guides, and conduct training workshops. Ability to provide guidance and leadership to employees and providers; ability to respond to emergencies and evacuations; strong English communication skills (oral and written). Education: a) Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development plus 1 year of relevant experience; or b) 4-year degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development plus 3 years of relevant experience; or c) a combination of education and experience with 24 higher-level semester hours in related fields plus 3 years of relevant experience.
