Overview
Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco internal audit opportunity. The Reserve Bank Operations Audit Team audits large scale Cash Operations, Federal Law Enforcement, Facilities Management, and other Administrative Services. The lead auditor is responsible for leading district-focused internal audit assurance and consulting work, including planning, conducting, documenting, and reporting audit results to determine the adequacy and effectiveness of controls over financial reporting, operations, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. We seek a candidate with a long-term interest in an internal audit career who will plant roots in an organization that supports education, mentorship, and career pathing. You are conscientious, analytical, data driven, and skilled at relationship building and communication, credible through humility and earned trust. The Reserve Bank Operations Audit Team travels to our branches to perform on-site audit work in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City. Travel assignments are typically five days and occur on average two times per quarter, with occasional shorter trips of 1–2 days per month in some months. Applicants should live within commutable distance to the downtown San Francisco headquarters (Embarcadero), Los Angeles (downtown), or Salt Lake City. Position is full time and located in one of the specified cities. Essential Responsibilities
Supervise and review moderate to moderately high‑risk audit work performed by audit team members in accordance with internal and external policies and audit standards. With guidance, evaluate team members’ performance after each assignment and, with limited supervision, guide auditors to ensure quality. This position may supervise 1–4 employees on an assignment basis. Define risk‑based audit scope and objectives for district‑focused audits, establish assignment time frames and budgets, and develop or revise audit programs. Execute the approved audit program in accordance with policies and standards under general supervision with increasing independence. Evaluate governance and risks and determine the effectiveness of controls over reliability and integrity of information, efficiency of operations, safeguarding of assets, and compliance with laws and regulations. Identify, assess, and challenge audit exceptions, make appropriate recommendations, and present clear explanations to audit management and operating personnel. Prepare written audit reports and coordinate edits from internal reviews to business management at the conclusion of audit reviews. Appraise the adequacy of corrective action taken for previously reported findings and review follow‑up work performed by other auditors. Maintain knowledge of activities in assigned risk areas, review pertinent data, and develop or maintain audit programs and risk assessments for those areas. Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) required within 24 months of placement in role. Five or more years of internal audit experience, preferably in a lead capacity (e.g., Auditor‑in‑Charge, Lead Auditor). Strong communication skills, including targeted verbal and written communication for internal and stakeholder interactions. Ability to resolve conflicts in complex situations. Strong understanding of general audit applications, data analytics, and knowledge of general IT controls. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Solid knowledge of risk management, compliance, and data-related frameworks; ability to apply IPPF, COSO ERM, and control concepts; ability to distinguish between control design and operational effectiveness. Strategic insight through researching and synthesizing information to articulate risks impacting strategic initiatives; ability to identify patterns and connect dots. Strong presentation, facilitation, and project management skills. Ability to travel approximately 15% of the time. U.S. Citizenship or Green Card with intent to become a U.S. Citizen. Preferred Skills/Experience
CIA certification. Internal audit experience in financial services, government, or environments with large cash operations (e.g., casinos). Knowledge of data analytics software. Base Salary Range: Min: 100,300; Mid: 130,400; Max: 160,300 (Location: San Francisco). Final salary will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
