Overview
Social Science Teacher SY25-26 (Washington) – Summit Public Schools Summit Public Schools is a leading network of public schools aiming to prepare a diverse student population for success in a four-year college and to be thoughtful, contributing members of society. We operate in the Bay Area and Washington state with 12 schools serving over 4,000 students. Summit graduates are college ready on graduation and complete college at rates above the national average. We are seeking exceptional, diverse, and mission-aligned teachers to join our team and help students lead fulfilled lives. The Summit Model
Teachers mentor the same group of students each year in advisory groups, building strong relationships over multiple years. Mentors meet 1:1 with students regularly and participate in daily mentor group meetings. During Project Time, teachers teach universal skills through real-world projects using subject-area expertise. Our research-backed curriculum provides tools so teachers can focus on project-based learning and continuous improvement. Summit emphasizes professional development, regular coaching, and feedback, with career pathways for teachers and school leaders. Collaboration structures enable weekly grade- and subject-level collaboration. Our schools are small, diverse communities where every student is known and supported to access equitable learning pathways. As a teacher, you will be culturally responsive and committed to equity for all students. What You’ll Do
A student school day typically runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with actual start/end times varying by school. Project Time: Teach 90-minute blocks in high school or four 55-minute blocks in middle school per day of project time. Most teachers teach one course per grade level (e.g., 9th Grade Biology) and see each section twice per week. You will supervise projects that develop cognitive skills and apply knowledge to real-world situations, facilitate discussions, coach students, and provide feedback. Between teaching blocks, you will analyze student data, build lesson plans, support school culture, and pursue personal development. Lesson planning is guided by student progress data to determine required supports. Mentor Time: Build deep relationships with a small group of mentees daily, guiding habits of success and providing one-on-one support to foster self-directed learning. Self-Directed Learning Time and Interventions: Facilitate self-directed learning and daily literacy or math interventions, including student support, progress monitoring, and targeted check-ins. Collaboration & Professional Development: Participate in all-faculty after-school meetings twice a week for decisions, professional development, and collaboration within grade-level or subject-level teams. What You Need
