The total salary range for Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II classifications is: Equipment Mechanic Assistant I:

$60,632.00 - $73,694.40 Equipment Mechanic Assistant II:

$66,560.00 - $80,828.80 Position Duties The Fleet Management Division in the Public Works Department manages the City’s fleet, including inspection, maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal. The City’s vehicle and equipment fleet currently consists of over 2,700 assets. The Fleet Management Division recruits to fill one (1) Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (EMA I/II). The EMA I/II performs inspections, communicates with staff and customers, services, installs electronic electrical equipment, orders parts, enters data in the fleet management system, conducts road tests, and diagnoses problems to make repairs and adjustments on automotive, heavy truck, and/or heavy equipment. Work is under general supervision and may require varied shift hours and overtime. The following areas of experience are described to align with applicant background: Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (SERVICE) for scheduling, servicing, inspections, and repairs; Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (PARTS) for ordering, receiving, issuing parts, inventory management, and using fleet database. Minimum Qualifications Equipment Mechanic Assistant I (EMA I) Education : Successful completion of high school, General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate. Experience : Two (2) years of experience in maintenance of automotive equipment including servicing vehicles, installation of automotive components and accessories, or maintenance and disbursement of parts and inventories. Equipment Mechanic Assistant II (EMA II) Education : Successful completion of high school, General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate. Experience : Four (4) years of experience in equipment mechanical assistance of automotive equipment, including servicing vehicles, installation of components, or maintenance and disbursement of inventories, including two (2) years of progressively responsible experience equivalent to EMA I with the City. Required Licensing (EMA I/II) : Possession of a valid California Driver\'s License at all times. Some positions may require a valid State of California Class A or B Driver\'s License with applicable endorsements. Background Investigation Process : Eligible candidates will complete a Class C Background packet. After background review, the hiring board will make selections. Those selected will move forward in the hiring process. Desirable competencies are demonstrated in past and current employment history. Selection Process The selection process includes evaluation of training and experience, interviews, and a practical exercise. The practical exercise will tentatively be held on October 11, 2025, and November 1, 2025. Interviews will tentatively be held the week of October 21, 2025 to November 13, 2025.
