Overview
Transportation Engineer Trainee (Engineering) - Location: Newington, CT and DOT Headquarters in Newington, CT; Full Time; 40 hours per week; First shift; Travel for training, conferences, meetings, field reviews, etc. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required and must be maintained. After successful completion of a one-year training program, promotion opportunities to Transportation Engineer 1 (Engineering) or Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering) are available.
Responsibilities
Problem solve, recommend and implement effective solutions in a timely manner
Contribute to providing safe and efficient transportation improvements for the traveling public
Utilize computer aided design software (MicroStation) and other applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel
Read and analyze or prepare construction plans and estimates
Collaborate with a team and provide verbal and written communication to a diverse population, including presentation skills
Use Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Access; multitask and manage large workloads
Qualifications & Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Possession of a Bachelor's degree. If the target job classification requires specific licensure and/or a degree in a specific area, those requirements apply for appointment. Substitutions include:
Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) licensure substituted for General Experience requirements
Additional substitutions available for Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering), including Land Surveyor (LS/LSIT) licensure, NICET Level III certifications in related programs, National Society of Professional Surveyors certification, or AWS CWI certification
Note: Candidates cannot be appointed until all degree requirements are complete.
Salary:
Transportation Engineer Trainee: $72,629 annually (promotional opportunities as noted); after training, potential progression to Transportation Engineer 2 with higher salary ranges as described in the job posting.
