The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is accepting applications for Transportation Engineer Trainee positions at the DOT Headquarters in Newington, CT. Transportation Engineer Trainees work in many different capacities agency-wide with positions available throughout the Bureau of Engineering and Construction.

Position Highlights

Full Time, 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, first shift Location: DOT Headquarters, Newington, CT Travel for training, conferences, meetings, field reviews, etc. may be required Valid motor vehicle operator\'s license required and must be maintained Eligible to apply for telework after successful completion of the working test period, and thereafter, in accordance with the Telework Policy

Discover The Opportunity To

Problem solve, recommend and implement effective solutions in a timely manner Contribute to providing safe and efficient transportation improvements for the traveling public Utilize computer aided design software (MicroStation) and other applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel Read and analyze or prepare construction plans and estimates

The Successful Candidate Will Have Experience With

Utilizing engineering-related computer software Working as part of a team Providing verbal and written communication to a diverse population, including presentation skills Using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Access Multitasking and managing large workloads

Salary / Promotional Opportunity

Transportation Engineer Trainee: $72,629 annually Upon successful completion of a one-year training program, promoted to Transportation Engineer 1 (Engineering) or Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering): $81,047 - $99,673 annually After two years as Transportation Engineer 1, promoted to Transportation Engineer 2: $91,244 - $117,842 annually

Purpose of Job Class: In the Department of Transportation and the Connecticut Airport Authority, this class is accountable for receiving training in introductory professional engineering work to develop transportation engineering skills and knowledge.

Examples of Duties: Perform a wide variety of increasingly difficult duties as technical skills are acquired during training.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

Knowledge of basic transportation engineering theories, principles and methods Skill in use of drafting and calculating instruments and computer applications Ability to perform mathematical computations, prepare neat drawings and minor design/structural details

Minimum Qualifications - General Experience

Possession of a Bachelor\'s degree.

Note: If the target job classification requires specific licensure and/or a degree in a specific area, these requirements are required for appointment.

Minimum Qualifications - Substitutions Allowed

Possession of Professional Engineer (PE) licensure as allowed by law 20-302 may be substituted for the General Experience requirement Possession of Engineer-In-Training (EIT) licensure 20-302 may be substituted for the General Experience requirement

Special Requirements

May be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator\'s license May be required to travel

Working Conditions

Exposure to highway, construction site, or on-site environments with some risk of injury and weather-related conditions.
