Overview
PSYCHOLOGIST I - Forensic Evaluator - Statewide (Hybrid)
is a position with the Colorado Department of Human Services. The role performs and ensures the quality and timely completion of court-ordered evaluations and restoration reports for Colorado courts, including competency, restoration to competency, and sanity/mental condition assessments. The evaluator represents the Department in communications with Judges and Courts. The current schedule is hybrid (remote work and on-site 2 days per week) and the candidate may be located at the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan or in Pueblo. Responsibilities
Perform court-ordered evaluations for competency, restoration of competency, or sanity/mental condition, with expected volume of about 12 evaluations per month (minimum 6 competency evaluations completed in jail). Prepare written reports detailing opinions on competency or sanity/mental condition, including barriers to competency when applicable, and ensure reports meet statutory requirements (C.R.S. 16-8.5) and related decrees. May be subpoenaed to testify in court to provide information regarding opinions. Conduct evaluations in hospitals, jails, or community settings as ordered; respond to the location specified in the court order. Request collateral information as needed and consult with supervisors or colleagues on difficult cases. Expert Testimony
Develop and deliver to courts expert opinions on competency, restoration, and, when applicable, sanity and mental condition. Provide neutral testimony and explain the basis for clinical and forensic opinions, including instruments used and collateral sources consulted. Training and Case Presentations
Attend annual and ongoing competency training to stay current with statutory and forensic standards. Present cases for peer review and may contribute to quality assurance processes. Other Duties
May be assigned special projects or tasks as needed by the Department. Minimum Qualifications
Current, valid licensure as a Psychologist from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners. One (1) year of experience as a licensed psychologist or permitted psychologist candidate. No substitutions. Special Qualifications
Must be a Licensed Psychologist. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Forensic Evaluations; evaluating competency to proceed. Ability to work independently with minimal direction; clear and effective written and oral communication skills; use of independent judgment to meet deadlines. Conditions of Employment
Background checks and screenings as required (CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, reference check, professional license verification, PREA, Trails, CAPS). Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver\'s license. May require extensive travel between offices, Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo and Fort Logan, and various detention facilities. Pre-Employment Physical and TB Test. Must be 21 years of age or older. Disclosures for former state employees related to prior terminations or resignations as required by policy. Appeal Rights
