Nature of work:

To serve as the Team Leader for the Traffic Safety Engineering Team in the Traffic Development and Support Division (TDSD) by providing leadership and management of the day-to-day operations. This position is responsible for evaluating the safety benefits and impacts of transportation projects and for developing recommendations to improve safety. It requires a variety of skills related to data analysis, project development, field observations, and research documentation. The Team Leader must possess in-depth knowledge of the crash database to provide data and facilitate analysis for highway safety engineering, education, and law enforcement efforts. This role involves identifying crash patterns that indicate systemic safety problems and recommending safety improvements that support the Maryland State Highway Administration's efforts to implement a systematic process for developing and funding projects aligned with the Federal Highway Administration's safety goals and objectives. Additionally, the Team Leader serves as a safety coordinator, overseeing the Highway Safety Improvement Program and developing the annual highway safety report. MDOT benefits

Qualifications

Education:

Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. Experience:

Seven (7) years of experience in professional engineering. Selective Qualification:

Three and one half (3.5) years of experience must involve traffic engineering. A Selective Qualification is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. No substitutions are allowed for a selective qualification. Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Working knowledge of national and state guidelines and standards related to transportation engineering and safety analysis for highway networks. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate statewide programs and specific projects. Effective oral and written communication skills. Good working knowledge of database management and data analysis pertaining to safety on Maryland's roads. Notes: Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
