Overview

Electrician (8195C) - NanoLab at UC Berkeley. Provides professional electrical services and maintenance support for the Marvell Nanofabrication Laboratory (NanoLab) and related faculty research laboratories and spaces within the College of Engineering and affiliated departments. Responsibilities

30% Equipment Support

Plan, coordinate, and carry out electrical connections for semiconductor processing, micro/nanofabrication, and other specialized laboratory equipment, coordinating with graduate researchers, faculty PI, building manager, inspectors, and service providers. Equipment includes thin film deposition and etch systems; thermal processing furnaces; photolithography tools; analytical systems; packaging tools; and ancillary support equipment. Also provide electrical service for research computers, servers, and data storage systems with potential emergency power requirements as defined by the Project Manager. Provide cabling and wiring between equipment and computer support/monitoring systems and between labs and machine rooms (e.g., CAT5/6, AV cabling).

25% Specialty Systems

Plan, coordinate, and carry out electrical service and connections for specialty systems such as building utility monitoring, card key access, material monitoring, and fire alarm systems. Coordinate with Project Manager and authorities having jurisdiction; e.g., card key control with UCPD and fire alarm systems with campus fire protection.

20% Facilities Support

Install electrical services to meet lab, instructional, and research needs. Repair and maintain electrical services; perform load analysis; verify utility conditions against design intent; update panel schedules and device labeling. Ensure inspections are completed with Project Manager; comply with campus and state electrical codes.

15% Design, Planning, and Documentation

Design schematic diagrams and working drawings for electrical services using CAD tools and hand drawings. Provide information and schematics to the permit office for campus plan updates. Coordinate with shop supervisor, project manager, and affected units to avoid interference with instructional schedules. Prepare time-and-material estimates and maintain project records in the Machine Shop Jobs Management System.

10% Machine Shop Support and Maintenance

Coordinate and install electrical connections for machine shop equipment (CNC mills, lathes, saws, grinders, drills, welding, dust collectors). Support fabrication of hardware modifications and custom parts. Maintain electrical parts inventory and workspace cleanliness. Follow safety procedures and environmental guidelines; participate in required training.

Required Qualifications

Journeyman level Electrician with 5 years of experience. Low voltage cable experience and ability to estimate materials and labor for electrical services. Strong communication, design, documentation, drawing, and layout skills. Electronic and mechanical skills and troubleshooting ability. State of CA Electrician License. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in semiconductor processing and nanotechnology equipment support. Experience with HVAC, facilities and utilities support. Knowledge of building-wide systems, NC/CNC equipment operation, and CAD-based drawing design. Knowledge of MSDS chemicals, OSHA regulations. Salary & Benefits

Salary range information: The budgeted salary is $68.34 hourly. This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits. This position is FLSA Non-exempt and paid biweekly.
