Job Type: Regular, Full time

Responsibilities
- Operate equipment or heavy machinery such as trucks, tractors, road graders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, snow removal equipment, and other equipment as needed.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
- Repair roadway shoulders or bridge decks as needed.
- Repair and/or replace signs, posts, guardrails, and fences.
- Provide traffic control assistance using a stop/slow sign or flag to direct highway traffic.
- Apply herbicide to highway rights-of-way to control vegetation.
- Remove debris including tires, animal carcasses, spilled items and other obstacles.
Level Descriptor
Level I: Basic level with supervision operating and maintaining power equipment and performing related unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in highway construction, maintenance, and repair.
Level II: Career level performing skilled work at full performance level in operating heavy equipment and performing routine highway maintenance duties.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Competencies
- Level I: Knowledge of safe operation of heavy machinery; ability to perform manual labor; follow instructions.
- Level II: Knowledge of operation and servicing of equipment; materials used in highway construction and maintenance; proper traffic control during maintenance operations; ability to operate heavy equipment; follow instructions; communicate effectively.
Education and Experience
- Level I: Education and experience requirements at this level are none.
- Level II: One year of experience in operating heavy equipment.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of employment. Some positions may require a valid Oklahoma commercial driver's license (Class A or B) with appropriate endorsements. CDL tank vehicle endorsement may be required for some ODOT positions. Applicants must pass drug testing prior to appointment.
- Willing and able to travel as needed; may work hours other than regular shifts during emergencies; must have a telephone in residence to receive emergency messages.
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, reaching, sitting, manipulating objects, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; regularly lift up to 80 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds; vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
