Position Overview Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This position, based in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a vital role in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position requires on-site work with no remote options and does not provide relocation assistance.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities of the position will mainly involve developing features and maintaining an in-house analysis system called the SEAT Toolbox

Originally developed in MATLAB, this system is used to review logs and verify the functionality of mission applications, suite systems, and more

The SEAT Toolbox is the main application used by the C2BMC program for analysis, among other purposes

Help with developing automated analysis and tests (using the SEAT Toolbox)

Outside of these responsibilities, other tasks include: Managing GitLab merge requests

Assisting other teams with issues or bugs related to tools provided by the Tools Team

Addressing urgent team issues, referred to as PRs

Basic Qualifications Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Masters Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD. Or 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.

Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

Ability and willingness to travel up to 10 to support business needs

Experience with automation and CI/CD pipelines, as well as working in fast-paced, collaborative team environments

Hands-on experience with Python and MATLAB is required

Preferred Qualifications

Background experience in backend software engineering, especially with Python or MATLAB, is highly preferred for the Tools Teams current needs

Experience in maintaining and improving frameworks and similar systems is also a significant plus

Bash/Unix, Java, and Java Spring are used to maintain other applications and frameworks within the tools team

Experience with Agile workflows

Using Jira and Confluence interfaces

Knowledge of using Microsoft Teams and Mattermost

Experience with Git and GitLab

Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
