About The Role Uber's Marketplace organization is tasked with designing pricing and dispatch algorithms to improve marketplace efficiency. We balance rider and earner needs, grow the business by improving user experiences while achieving financial goals. We build optimization algorithms, ML models, and scalable systems that serve them across hundreds of markets globally.

About The Team The Session Value team is a new effort within Marketplace to create a central mechanism to score decisions incorporating short‑term and long‑term effects on riders and earners. The team defines a central marketplace objective that is optimized across all Marketplace systems and steers the entire marketplace direction. The team mixes experienced engineers with diverse backgrounds (Economics, ML, Backend) focused on understanding complex marketplace dynamics and user behavior.

What You’ll Do You will work with backend engineers, economists, and other ML engineers to build behavioral models and predictors for marketplace outcomes and metrics to be used in objective functions across Marketplace. You will partner across multiple teams, define metrics, monitor production ML models, and build scalable ML systems for serving real‑time rides traffic.

Basic Qualifications

Master’s or PhD in relevant fields (CS, EE, Math, Stats, etc.) with a focus on Machine Learning.

Good software engineering fundamentals.

Expertise in deep learning and optimization algorithms.

Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.

Proficiency in one or more coding languages such as Python, Java, Go, or C++.

Strong communication skills and can work effectively with cross‑functional partners.

Strong sense of ownership and tenacity toward hard machine‑learning projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in serving and monitoring online training systems such as real‑time recommendation systems.

Experience designing and implementing novel metrics for performance evaluation.

Compensation For San Francisco, CA‑based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year – USD$185,500 per year. You will be eligible to participate in Uber’s bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of compensation. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
