The courses are primarily introductory or survey courses. Appointments may be full-time or part-time and may be limited to one semester. This does not constitute a posting for vacancies but establishes a pool of applicants should openings occur during the coming academic year. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis through the academic year. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. Job Duties Develop and teach courses Advise students regarding both specific coursework and broader academic or career goals Provide service through participation in governance of the department and/or the University Continue personal growth within the profession, keep current with the field, and broaden knowledge and expertise Contribute to outreach activities that support the unit’s mission. Qualifications Teaching Specialists’ Hiring Criteria American Studies is flexible with its degree requirements. Other important hiring criteria include academic training, prior teaching experience, and relevant life or professional experience. Lecturers’ Hiring Criteria American Studies is flexible with its degree requirements, but in order to be hired at the Lecturer level, you will need to have a Ph.D. Other important hiring criteria include academic training, prior teaching experience, and relevant life or professional experience. Compensable Factors Professional experience that provides basis for subject expertise Ability to master subject matter and communicate it in organized and coherent manner around a subject matter Difficulty in finding the right skills and expertise American Studies will apply these compensable factors when the need arises and as a way to justify differences in pay when appropriate. Pay Range Pay and Benefits AMST Teaching Specialists are paid on a per credit basis as follows: Undergraduate credit courses: $2,333-$3,000 per credit; depending on education/qualifications/experience. Undergraduate credit courses: $7,000-$9,000 per course; depending on education/qualifications/experience. AMST Lecturers are paid on a per credit basis as follows: Undergraduate credit courses: $2,667-$3,334 per credit; depending on education/qualifications/experience. Undergraduate credit courses: $8,000-$10,000 per course; depending on education/qualifications/experience. Retirement plan options are available for Civil Service, Faculty, Labor-Represented, Professional & Administrative, and Temp Casual classifications. Learn more about retirement plans .
