Regulatory Compliance Engineer, JWO Hardware Engineering
Amazon Web Services (AWS) invites an experienced Regulatory Compliance Engineer to lead compliance strategy and execution for our Just Walk Out (JWO) technology products. The role requires a technical expert who can independently manage complex, multi-regional regulatory requirements while working cross-functionally with hardware engineering, manufacturing partners, and global deployment teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end regulatory compliance strategy for JWO hardware systems, including sensors, cameras, edge computing devices, and associated infrastructure.
Ensure products meet EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), Safety, and Environmental compliance requirements across multiple regions.
Develop and maintain compliance roadmaps aligned with product development timelines and international expansion plans.
Identify and mitigate regulatory risks early in the product development lifecycle.
Coordinate testing schedules, certification timelines, and documentation deliverables with external regulatory partners.
Drive closure of regulatory blockers and communicate status to senior leadership.
Experience In Regulatory Requirements For EU And Asia
Stay current on evolving international regulations and assess impact on existing and future products.
Serve as primary regulatory liaison with Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs).
Review and approve compliance documentation, test reports, and certificates of conformity.
Define test plans and coordinate EMC, safety, and environmental testing with accredited laboratories.
Troubleshoot compliance failures and work with engineering teams to implement corrective actions.
Design and approve regulatory labels meeting multi-regional requirements.
Create and maintain technical files, declarations of conformity, and certification packages.
Provide regulatory guidance during product design reviews and architecture decisions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent.
5+ years of regulatory compliance experience in consumer electronics, IoT devices, or related hardware products.
Proven expertise in EMC testing and standards.
Strong background in product safety standards.
Demonstrated experience with environmental regulations (RoHS, REACH, California Prop 65).
Track record of managing 5+ concurrent compliance projects successfully.
3+ years working directly with Contract Manufacturers and ODMs on regulatory matters.
Extensive experience securing certifications in EU and Asian regions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
Experience with laser and LED eye safety.
Experience with EU Machinery Directive.
Experience in creating and executing risk assessments.
