Job Summary
Under limited direction and in compliance with technical, administrative, regulatory, or professional standards, directs and manages the activities and operations of a major division (e.g., Administration, Field Operations, Investigations, or Support) of the Greenville Police Department. Responsible for division supervision; implementation of departmental policies; oversight of law‑enforcement activities; planning, budgetary support, and other administrative or operational processes. Assists in coordination with city officials or outside agencies; serves on committees and panels as assigned. Monitors laws, rules, and regulations and evaluates activities to ensure compliance. Addresses complaints and resolves issues with law‑enforcement personnel, public citizens, or groups. Participates in the department’s internal investigation and disciplinary system. Performs special projects and reports progress through periodic meetings. Maintains awareness of new trends and incorporates developments as appropriate. Serves on community and specialized boards as requested. Assumes command during the absence of the Police Majors or Police Chief as assigned.
Job Duties – Essential Functions

Administration Division:
Manage departmental administrative, training, and budgetary preparations; plan, staff, and coordinate city special events; research and apply for grants; facilitate research into new police technology; manage budgetary function and collaborate with the Office of Management & Budget; oversee CALEA accreditation activities.
Field Operations Division:
Manage all field operations platoons; standardize operational procedures; oversee labor allocation, scheduling, staffing, patrol coverage, and special patrol activities; compile and disseminate law‑enforcement intelligence; coordinate statistical data; serve as communication line to command staff.
Investigations Division:
Manage all investigative functions including criminal investigations, victim/witness advocacy, drug enforcement, and federal task force operations. Facilitate strategies to mitigate crime through informant development and intelligence use.
Support Division:
Manage support functions such as traffic, warrants, animal control, school resource officers, and crime‑response teams; use statistical data to guide crime‑response and traffic teams; research training and equipment.
Perform Administrative Duties Complete internal reports, brief majors and the chief, ensure required materials are available, and verify equipment inspections. Assist in planning, staffing, and system reviews; evaluate service delivery and recommend improvements; support grant research and preparation. Exercise sound judgment in disciplinary administration.
Act as Liaison between Police Department and Residents Establish positive relationships with community organizations, state/local agencies, city staff, and the public. Represent the department at community and professional meetings; address and resolve complaints and sensitive inquiries; provide public information programs; serve on community boards and committees.
Support Prosecution of Criminal Cases Understand and enforce federal, state, and city criminal and traffic laws; file correct documents such as warrants and tickets; organize supporting documentation for court cases; provide testimony as required.
Perform Other Duties as Assigned Assist with additional responsibilities as directed by the Police Chief or Police Major.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, business, social work, human services, or a related field.
At least eleven years of continuous service as a certified police officer, including a minimum of two (2) years as a lieutenant or higher rank at the GPD or a comparable agency.
Must obtain Class 1 certification from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy within one (1) year of employment.
Driver's License Requirements
Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.
