Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled
Fiber Designer
with strong experience in both coaxial and fiber optic network design. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of hands‑on design experience and be proficient in using
AutoCAD, QGIS, and Google Earth (KMZ/KML)
for telecom design projects. This role involves creating accurate and buildable designs, ensuring compliance with client and industry standards, and supporting project teams with high‑quality deliverables.
This role is primarily office‑based, with occasional travel as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and prepare
fiber optic and coaxial network designs
for new builds, upgrades, and maintenance projects.
Create
construction drawings, as‑builts, and permit packages
using AutoCAD and GIS tools.
Work with
QGIS and Google Earth (KMZ/KML)
to analyze routes, generate design maps, and prepare documentation.
Perform
network path analysis , including aerial and underground plant, splice points, nodes,
and node splits .
Collaborate with engineers, field teams, and project managers to ensure accuracy and constructability of designs.
Review redlines, field notes, and survey data to update and maintain accurate design records.
Ensure compliance with
industry standards, client specifications, and local permitting requirements .
Maintain version control and organized documentation for design packages.
Qualifications & Skills
3–5 years of experience
in fiber and coaxial network design.
Proficiency in
AutoCAD, QGIS, and Google Earth (KMZ/KML files) . Comparable tools are also considered.
Understanding of
OSP (Outside Plant) telecom design
standards and construction practices.
Knowledge of
aerial and underground routing, splicing, node design, and node splits .
Ability to read and interpret utility maps, construction prints, and field survey data.
Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross‑functional teams.
Experience with permitting requirements and local jurisdiction standards is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, GIS, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
Preferred Extras
Experience with
ArcGIS, MicroStation, or other design/GIS platforms .
Knowledge of
fiber splicing diagrams, OTDR traces, and network documentation tools .
Familiarity with
FTTH, HFC, and backbone network architectures .
