Application Engineer – Medium Voltage Pad Mounted Switchgear Proposals (West)
Siemens is looking for an Application Engineer to join our Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit in Livermore, CA. Key Responsibilities Prepare comprehensive technical and commercial proposals for Pad Mounted Switchgear, Gas Insulated Switchgear, and MV Metal Enclosed Air‑Insulated Switchgear. Review customer specifications, commercial and technical documents, and product requirements. Define preliminary scope of work and develop layout and single‑line drawings. Collaborate with internal engineers to generate technical solutions for the Siemens/Trayer product suite. Prepare RFQ packages for third‑party products and work closely with Procurement to secure quotations. Evaluate quotations, recommend design and vendor choices, and develop cost models using product configurators. Prepare customer‑facing proposals and engage in pre‑sales discussions with Regional Sales Managers, customers, and channel partners. Negotiate and secure contracts and hand over projects from Bid to Project Execution with the PMO team. Conduct product demonstrations and on‑site training sessions when required. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. 3+ years of engineering experience in an EPC, manufacturing, utility, or industrial corporate environment. Strong analytical skills to interpret customer technical specifications and single‑line diagrams. Financial knowledge to support ongoing business planning and product lifecycle management. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and willingness to learn product configuration and pricing applications. Less than 25% travel required. Preferred Qualifications Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to identify market trends and work closely with Marketing and Technology to create and justify projects. Strong collaboration, leadership, and decision‑making skills in a team environment. Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA standards for power distribution applications, especially for Medium Voltage switchgear and transformer applications. Basic experience in the design and application of electrical distribution products focused on medium voltage metal‑clad and metal‑enclosed switchgear products. Experience evaluating single‑line drawings, schematics, relay protection & control schemes, communication network diagrams, and related engineering documents. Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, and other 2D layout drawing tools. 3–5 years of engineering experience in an EPC, manufacturing, utility, or industrial corporate environment.
