Omni Underground, inc. is hiring: Heavy Equipment Operator in Fowler

Omni Underground is seeking a skilled Backhoe Operator to join our growing underground utility construction team. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating backhoes and related heavy equipment to perform trenching, potholing, vault setting, and conduit installation for dry utilities such as fiber, power, and communication lines. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and takes pride in high-quality work that meets production goals while protecting existing infrastructure. You’ll work closely with our foremen and crews to complete full turnkey projects, including directional drilling, restoration, and utility installations across the Central Valley. Responsibilities: • Operate backhoe and mini-excavator to dig trenches & pits for dry utilities (fiber, power, communications, etc.) • Perform potholing and locate existing utilities with care and precision • Set vaults, boxes, and conduit banks accurately according to plans • Load/unload materials, spoils, and maintain a clean, organized jobsite • Work with crew/foremen to maintain production goals and safety standards • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance • Read and follow plans, maps, and USA markings • Assist crew members as needed – teamwork is key at Omni Qualifications: • Minimum 2+ years of experience operating a backhoe in underground utility work • Strong understanding of utility safety and jobsite awareness • Valid driver’s license (Class A preferred but not required) • Able to operate additional equipment (mini-ex, skid steer, vac truck) preferred • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check • Reliable transportation and consistent attendance are required Compensation: $25 - $30 hourly
