Position Overview

The Superintendent plays a key leadership role overseeing day-to-day field operations for heavy civil construction projects, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project plans and specifications. This position serves as the primary field representative for the project, working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and union crews to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise all field operations on assigned projects, including crews, subcontractors, and equipment.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements across all job sites.
• Coordinate daily schedules, materials, and manpower to maintain project timelines.
• Work collaboratively with Project Managers and Engineers to address field challenges, implement solutions, and track progress.
• Manage field documentation, including daily reports, inspections, and quality control logs.
• Oversee site logistics, traffic control, and coordination with public agencies as required.
• Participate in project planning, scheduling, and progress meetings.
• Mentor and support field engineers and foremen, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
• Maintain strong relationships with union representatives and ensure compliance with local union regulations.

Qualifications

• Experience: 7+ years of field supervision experience in heavy civil construction, including water, sewer, utility, or roadway projects within the NYC metro area.
• Certifications: OSHA 30 required; additional safety or trade-specific certifications (e.g., welding) a plus.
• Industry Knowledge: Must have experience working with NYC agencies such as NYCDDC, DOT, DEP, or similar.
• Union Experience: Familiarity with NYC union rules and practices required.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
• Experience using Bluebeam or similar construction software
• Familiarity with HCSS, Viewpoint, and scheduling software (Primavera P6 a plus)
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple crews and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the company’s service area.
