Benefits Manager – Universal Pure

Overview The Benefits Manager leads the strategic administration and day‑to‑day management of Universal Pure’s employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, EAP and leave of absence (LOA) programs. This role ensures full compliance with federal and state regulations and serves as the company’s internal expert and primary point of contact for benefits, FMLA and LOA.
Core Responsibilities
Administration of group benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, EAP).
Planning, communication and vendor coordination for annual open enrollment.
Processing benefit changes due to qualifying life events and updating HRIS and vendor feeds.
Onboarding new hires into benefit programs and supporting benefit elections.
Compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA and state leave laws, monitoring legal changes and updating policies.
Administration of ACA filings (Forms 1094‑C and 1095‑C), COBRA notifications and benefit filings (Form 5500, nondiscrimination testing).
Management of FMLA, ADA, STD, LTD and other leave programs and serving as the subject matter expert for all LOA processes.
Development and management of the benefits platform in UKG, including configuration, workflows, data feeds, testing and reporting.
Benefit education and communication through handouts, FAQs and training sessions.
Training HR Business Partners on FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, COBRA and other benefit laws.
Vendor liaison to resolve issues, monitor performance and oversee invoicing and reconciliations.
Administration of the 401(k) plan, ensuring compliance with ERISA and timely enrollment.
Monitoring and reporting key benefit metrics such as enrollment, utilization, cost trends and compliance.
Leading benefits‑related projects and supporting broader HR initiatives.
Travel Requirements
Travel during open enrollment for on‑site employee education and benefit events.
Occasional travel for HRBP training or compliance reviews at site level.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
Professional certification (e.g., CEBS, SHRM‑CP/SCP) strongly preferred.
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in benefits, FMLA/LOA and retirement administration in a multi‑site environment.
Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, conditional formatting and complex formulas.
In‑depth knowledge of federal and state benefits laws: ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ADA, FMLA, ACA and applicable state‑specific leave laws.
UKG experience required; ability to build, configure and manage benefits workflows.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); strong reporting and data analysis skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication, confidentiality, professionalism and stakeholder trust.
Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
