Overview
Nurse Practitioner - UCSF Diabetes Pediatric Program PEDS-ENDOCRINOLOGY Part Time 86402BR The UCSF Pediatric Diabetes Program is a robust interdisciplinary research and clinical practice. Our practice is a multi-disciplinary integrated clinic that serves a broad range of patients of diverse backgrounds. Responsibilities
Contribute to clinical research, clinical projects, and overall pediatric diabetes care to support UCSF Pediatric Diabetes Program staff, including global health projects. Conduct standard clinic visits at least every 2-3 months with review of systems, physical examination, review of diabetes data, and adjustments of insulin regimens and other diabetes medications. Provide diabetes education in outpatient pediatric diabetes practice, case management, and periodic review of diabetes data with insulin regimen adjustments. Perform direct assessments of patients and research subjects, provide initial and ongoing diabetes education and training on diabetes management and device use (including investigational diabetes technology devices). Respond daily to phone calls and emails regarding clinical care; review insulin pump and glucose downloads; adjust insulin and other medications to optimize metabolic control (with or without physician supervision). Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (MDs, NPs, nurses, dietitians, social workers, psychologists, transition coordinator, school nurses or community liaisons). Join the current CDE pool and share responsibilities including EOD; conduct group sessions to train patients and families in the use of insulin pumps, CGMs, and other diabetes devices and treatments. Support Type 1 diabetes clinical research team at UCSF conducting immunotherapy trials and projects; recruit patients and support diabetes management during clinical trials to optimize glycemic control. Assist in optimizing screening for type 1 diabetes risk to identify subjects for prevention trials; participate in screening events at diabetes walks, camps, and community events planned by UCSF. Required Qualifications
Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing recognized Nurse Practitioner Program with a master’s or doctoral degree aligned with the patient population and clinical role. Master’s degree with relevant diabetes clinical experience and qualifications such as: Critical analysis and problem-solving skills; collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills for patients and families across developmental levels. 1 year experience with fully automated insulin delivery systems in pediatric patients. 5 years of clinical experience in Pediatric Diabetes. Experience with early adoption of pump therapy management and education for pediatric patients. Current/Active Nationally Board Certified Pediatric NP license in California. Must be a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or be willing to obtain Certification within 6 months of employment. Preferred Qualifications
5 years of clinical experience in Pediatric Diabetes; additional experience in general endocrinology. 1 year experience with automated insulin delivery systems. Flexibility to orient and work at outreach locations. Knowledge of insulin pump downloads, CGM, and automated insulin delivery systems (AID). Ability to document in real-time within EMR. Proficiency with diabetes technology devices and staying current with new devices, including research devices. License/Certification
California RN license without restriction. California NP license without restriction. California NP Furnishing Number. NP national board certification aligned with patient population and role. Pediatric Outpatient certifications as applicable (CPNP-PC, PPCNP-BC, CPNP-AC, FNP-C, FNP-BC). California Driver License if required. DEA registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, 5 registered to a CA address. AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. UCSF Medical Center and Campus credentialing may require approval by OMAG; this process can take 60-90 days and varies. About UCSF
