Job Overview The officer assists in the processing and maintenance of students' financial aid applications at the School of Medicine. The officer is responsible for assisting the Associate Dean for Financial Aid with the implementation of all policies and procedures governing institutional financial aid programs. In addition, the officer is responsible for helping ensure compliance with Title IV and Title VII regulations, other federal regulations as they apply to student financial aid programs and institutional policies in the administration. In collaboration with the other officers on the team, this position maintains an up-to-date understanding of state, federal and institutional legal, fiscal and statutory regulations pertaining to financial aid and assures compliance for the School of Medicine, along with assisting in the completion of reports for federal and state agencies, annual audits and/or program reviews.

The officer also serves as the primary point of contact for financial aid questions from applicants and admitted students. This includes leading financial aid presentations during admissions events and presentation days, and providing one-on-one guidance to help prospective students understand the cost of attendance, loan options, and available financial resources at the School of Medicine.

Work Interactions This staff position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Enrollment and Financial Aid. The officer collaborates and shares responsibilities with other Financial Aid staff. The officer maintains a close working relationship with other administrative offices within the School of Medicine including Advancement, the Dean for Medical Education, Student Affairs and the Registrar. In addition, the officer works with both Law Center & Main Campus Financial Aid Offices, the Office of Student Accounts, University Information Services, and with representatives from outside lending institutions, the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services and the United States Military.

The incumbent must be able to make presentations and informational sessions regarding financial aid to applicants and medical students. This position assists the Associate Dean for Enrollment and Financial Aid through attendance at official School of Medicine functions such as Second Look Day, Office of Advancement-sponsored student and alumni events, and medical student class meetings. Further, the incumbent participates in professional development seminars and federal training necessary.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Experience with MS Excel and Access

Working knowledge of student information systems; experience in SCT's BANNER desirable

Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills; attention to detail

Proven ability to interact with all members of a team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner

Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills; public speaking skills; ability to represent the University in a positive way to diverse populations

Experience in web design or related activities to update content of the Financial Aid website

Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA

Preferred Requirements

One to Two years experience working in Admissions and/or Financial Aid

Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

High comfort level working with data

Excellent communication and organization skills - written and verbal; attention to detail

Ability to multi-task and work on deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Pay Range The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position is: $44,022.00 - $73,406.80. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
