General Functions

Performs highly advanced professional engineering work and provides supervision for one or more engineering functions of a specialized nature. This is highly advanced professional, administrative and supervisory engineering work. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for directing specific projects and programs and performing other comparable field and/or office engineering work. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the designated supervisor. Representative Duties/Assignments

Directs and implements traffic engineering projects and programs Develops and reviews plans, specifications and engineering estimates for signalization, roundabouts, intersection improvements, signing and pavement marking, traffic calming, speed management, and maintenance of traffic projects Oversees and participates in the traffic engineering review of development plans with respect to selection of traffic controls, access management, parking restrictions, safety and functionality of the transportation network Provides leadership and direction for the Traffic Engineering Division administration section Takes a leadership role in developing and monitoring operating and CIP budgets for the administrative section Coordinates with other Public Works divisions in supporting the traffic engineering review of planning, design and constructions projects Provides data-driven and cost effective solutions to traffic engineering issues Oversees, assigns work tasks, and monitors workload of approximately 15 employees Sets goals and expectations for staff productivity, performance measures and customer service in the Traffic Engineering Division administration section Determines, monitors, and provides for the training and professional development needs for administration staff in the Traffic Engineering Division Communicates with the Mayor, District Commissioners and media Attends community meetings and events during night or weekend hours as needed Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil/Transportation engineering and eight years of Engineering experience. A Master's degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Licensed by the Florida State Board of Professional Engineers as a professional engineer. Preferences
