Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Duties Help. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 15th, 2025. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be October 20th, 2025, with subsequent cut-off dates every 5 days. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, schedule to be coordinated with your supervisor.
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME).
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contribution by VA.
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification).
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
Clinical Duties
Treat complications arising from diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and smoking.
Treat patients who need hemodialysis because of kidney failure secondary to diabetes mellitus or hypertension, by creating an access in their arm for hemodialysis.
Treat varicose veins in the legs.
Consult with other physicians and refer patients to other specialists if required.
Discuss all the non-operative, medical versus surgical treatment options, and the risks and benefits of surgery with the patient.
Schedule follow-up to monitor patient's prior procedures and aneurysm size as part of well-established vascular society guidelines and advise them on suitable after care measures and medication they might require.
Administrative Duties
Document all medical information in an electronic medical record.
Education Duties
Instructing and educating Vascular Surgery and General Surgery Residents.
Requirements
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
Subject to background/security investigation.

Degree: Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited U.S. medical school.
License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited residency training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Additional Requirement Board Certified or Board Eligible Vascular Surgeon.
Physical Requirements This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. You may be required to walk, stand, stoop, sit, bend, pull, and push for long periods. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. Must be able to perform CPR per ACLS/BLS protocol.
Education
Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited U.S. medical school (LCME) or osteopathic medical school (AOA).
For foreign medical graduates: Verification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and receipt of an ECFMG certificate.
