Pre‑Employment Clearance
All offers of employment are contingent on pre‑employment clearances for: Department of Justice fingerprints; Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprints; Tuberculosis; and Physical. The District pays for these clearances for Substitute Employees.
Responsibilities
- Assist with distributing items (supplies, mail, packages, furniture) as needed.
- Clean classrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, auditoriums, lounges, offices, locker rooms, hallways, and other assigned facilities; dust and polish furniture; empty waste receptacles; spot mop spills; remove gum, debris, and graffiti.
- Clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restroom facilities; fill dispensers; wash mirrors, tile, walls, and windows; unclog drains and toilets; replenish supplies.
- Communicate with personnel, administrators, and contacts to resolve issues or concerns.
- Lock and unlock doors, gates, windows; turn lights on and off; maintain security of assigned areas according to guidelines; set alarms as appropriate.
- Move, arrange, and assemble furniture and equipment; perform minor installation, maintenance, and repair; prepare spaces for special events or meetings; clean up after events.
- Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines, and carpet cleaning machines; maintain equipment and assist with supply levels.
- Participate in thorough cleaning and restoration during vacation periods.
- Pursue routine custodial activities at assigned site; sweep, scrub, mop, strip, wax, and polish floors; vacuum rugs and carpets; spot clean and shampoo carpets.
- Picks up paper and debris from grounds and adjacent areas; sweep concrete surfaces.
- Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean chalkboards, whiteboards, trays, erasers; clean tables, chairs, floors.
- Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards; report need for maintenance and repairs; respond to health and safety concerns.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to six months of performing custodial functions.
- Knowledge of methods, equipment, and materials used in grounds maintenance work.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Basic hand tools for making minor equipment repairs.
- Proper methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in modern custodial work.
- Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
- Observe and report safety hazards and maintenance needs.
- Observe health and safety regulations.
- Operate equipment used in industrial maintenance.
- Adhere to safety practices.
- Use cleaning materials and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Understand written procedures; write routine documents; speak clearly.
- Utilize a variety of job‑related equipment.
- Adapt to changing work priorities.
- Work effectively with others; work as part of a team; work non‑standard hours and travel between assigned sites.
