Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) is one of four Girl Scout Councils supporting the New Jersey area. The Role

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join our Finance team as Accountant who will be responsible for managing the organization’s accounts payable and payroll functions, ensuring accurate financial record-keeping, timely processing of payments, and compliance with company policies and regulations. Additionally, this role provides support to the Controller with general ledger maintenance and bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.

Here’s What You Will Be Doing

  • Ensures invoice packages are complete including purchase order, authorizations, and proper account coding, enters invoices into accounting system (Abila) and processes payments.
  • Reconciles accounts payable to the trial balance.
  • Prepares year-end vendor 1099's.
  • Maintains vendor's master-files including W-9's, contracts, and insurance.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries.
  • Assist with preparing account analyses, general ledger reconciliations and prepares ad hoc accounting reports as necessary.
  • Assists with preparation of month-end closing, allocations, and financial statements.
  • Assists with annual year-end audit schedules.
  • Accounting for cash receipts and transactions within council.
  • Prepares bank receipts.
  • Runs monthly reports in NetSuite.
  • Maintains chart of accounts in Abila and NetSuite.
  • Responsible for providing monthly investments statements and reconciliation.
  • Processes monthly expense reports in a timely manner.
  • Processes payroll accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintains payroll records, including tax withholdings, benefits deductions, and wage garnishments.
  • Review and reconcile payroll reports, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Coordinates with HR to ensure accurate employee records, salary adjustments, and benefits administration.
  • Generates and distributes payroll reports as needed for internal and external audits.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Is This You?

  • Associate degree in accounting, finance or related field; and two years’ experience in accounts payable and payroll processing or recording.
  • Knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrates dependability, honesty, integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Proficiency with Excel and accounting and payroll software (e.g., MIP Abilia, ADP, Paycom, or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll and AP regulations, tax laws, and best practices.
  • Experience with general ledger maintenance and bank reconciliations.
  • Must be a personable, self-starter who possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to adapt and flex as business needs change.
  • Highly organized, problem solver with demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects, set priorities, manage objectives within specified time and financial limits.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to exhibit a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information with integrity and discretion, exercising sound judgment, and being proactive.
  • Ability to work independently or as a part of a team.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • MIP Abila experience preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit or public sector accounting.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Flexibility to shift work hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate up to 30 pounds of Girl Scouting products, supplies, or materials.
  • A valid driver’s license is required if driving a council vehicle. Reliable transportation, whether the employee’s own vehicle or public transportation, is necessary for travel between council properties and throughout the entire service area as needed.
  • Become a registered member of Girl Scouts and maintain membership for duration of employment.
