Position Summary The Senior Graphic Arts Manager is an integral role within the Brand team and is responsible for the concepting, design, development, coordination and implementation of all signage and graphics produced by the Zoo and its vendors. This position works closely with key departments to develop signage or graphics and proactively administer regular maintenance on existing signage and graphics throughout the Zoo. This position reports to the Director of Brand Management and works closely with outside agencies and vendors.

Your day to day

Conceptualizes, designs, plans, and produces signage for facilities, events, special engagements, animal identification, and the daily guest experience. Signage can include, but is not limited to:

Way‑finding

Animal identification

Interpretive (to meet AZA and AAM guidelines and standards)

Donor recognition

Seasonal themed events

Disaster preparedness and recovery

Public information

Other signage as necessary to communicate with employees, guests, volunteers, and vendors

Conceptualizes, designs, plans, and produces thematic installations for events and throughout the zoo as assigned (when necessary).

Responsible for the coordination and installation of all signage and thematic graphics produced in‑house or from outside vendors.

Administers routine maintenance and repairs of all signage and aesthetic features throughout Zoo.

Plans production schedules for design projects, oversees workflow, and manages expenses to ensure projects are developed in a timely manner and within assigned budget.

Responsible for ensuring the Zoo remains in compliance with all relevant local, state and federal laws as they apply to the functional areas of responsibility.

Maintains written records of design and construction plans for safety, future replication, evaluation, and improvement. Maintains archives of all proprietary electronically generated storyboard and other designs to maintain redundancy for disaster preparedness and reuse.

Practices the proper and safe use of supplies, equipment, and tools.

Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, graphic arts, or related field.

5+ years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experiences.

Experience in design, layout and production of two and three dimensional signs and graphics.

Knowledge of sign production materials as well as industry processes.

Excellent proficiency and experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite to include Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator and adapt well to other computer programs and audio/visual equipment.

Ability to perform basic shop skills through the use of cutting tools, power tools and basic carpentry.

Must be experienced with using computer‑controlled cutting and design systems. Cricut experience preferred.

Strong organization, project and time management skills

Ability to manage workload of various projects to timely completion.

Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare.

Ensures that Zoo policies and procedures are understood, properly administered and followed by subcontractors or vendors.

Must have the ability to follow specific instructions and also be comfortable self‑directing.

Must be able to think logically and, at times, provide suggested solutions for problems with minimal guidance.

General knowledge of occupational hazards and use of appropriate safety precautions.

Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (e.g., heat, rain, or cold).

Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.

Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts including holidays and weekends.

Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, walking, and climbing.

Must be able to lift over 50 pounds.
