Job Details The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Youth Services and Education Programs Division is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator. This position is responsible for supporting a holistic approach to youth development and engagement by coordinating with internal and external partners, multiple community stakeholders, and team members across multiple sites in Gainesville. The Program Coordinator’s primary focus will be on developing, implementing, administering, and presenting programs or services primarily through out-of-school, after-school, summer camp, preschool programs, and youth resiliency programming. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its supervisory and administrative responsibilities. This hourly position reports directly to the Education Supervisor and works under general supervision. The successful candidate must be able to pass a Level 2 DCF background screening. This position requires some evening and weekend hours.

Summary This is para-professional work developing, implementing, administering, and presenting programs or services for the City and its facilities. Depending on area of assignment, positions allocated to this classification may supervise others. Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its supervisory and administrative responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions

Develop, implement, and administer programs and events for the City.

Serve as a primary contact for Special Event permits and assist event organizers through the permitting process.

Evaluate effectiveness of programs and practices; make recommendations relating to projects, needs, and development.

Assist in development of long and short range plans and assist with budget preparation.

Determine functional needs and locate and obtain appropriate materials.

Assist in development of policies, procedures, and administrative guidelines for staff.

Coordinate public relations activities, including speaking before groups and media and preparing press releases, brochures, and newsletters.

Develop or acquire program materials, including brochures, newsletters, handouts, bulletin boards, displays, exhibits and other required equipment and supplies.

Assists in the selection of and supervises, plans, evaluates, disciplines, trains, and coordinates the work of assigned staff.

Serve as liaison to advisory boards or friends group.

Develop community partnerships for programming, events and projects.

Assist with maintaining agency accreditation.

Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage current and new grant proposals for public and private funders as well as major gifts acquisition in compliance with local, State, and Federal policies and procedures required for the receipt of grant funding.

Qualifications Education and Experience: Bachelor degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in a field relevant to the assigned area, and three years progressively responsible program administration experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid United States Driver License, Florida Driver License required within thirty days of start date.

American Red Cross certification in CPR, AED and First Aid.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification (required). American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Training preferred.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training required. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.

National Alliance for Youth Sports CYSA preferred.

National Recreation and Parks Association CPRP required within 12 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of planning, developing, directing and administering assigned programs.

Ability to analyze program effectiveness and make recommendations.

Working knowledge of grant funding laws.

Basic knowledge of government finance, accounting and purchasing practices.

Proficient with personal computers and software.

Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others.

Ability to organize and conduct educational programs and events.

Ability to gather information, maintain accurate records and prepare moderately complex reports.

Physical and Environmental Requirements May be required to work or attend meetings outside regular business hours, including nights, weekends and holidays. Work may require the performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions. Drug test required for this role.
