This position is responsible for supervising and investigating adult criminal offenders who require specialized intensive supervision or specialized investigative efforts and are on or seeking release to probation, parole, work releases, a community residential center or grant of pardon. Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $30.57 per hour . Note regarding the advertised pay range:
The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and NOT the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire. Experience and education:
Two years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus one of the following: Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement Three years of continuous active military duty (all MOS apply) Six years of full-time experience in any field A bachelor’s degree OR One year of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, business administration, public administration, or a criminal justice field. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license. This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms. Conducts investigations of persons who represent a high degree of concern for public safety and welfare of the community, including offenders with violent histories or high danger, and provides intensive supervision to high profile cases such as sex offenders, organized gangs, contagious offenders (e.g., HIV and Hepatitis B).
Ensures sex offender compliance with laws and requirements. Administer drug tests by obtaining urine samples and evaluating results. Coordinates and supervises community service work performed by parolees.
May exercise functional supervision over Probation and Parole Officers 1, 2 and 3 – Adult as deemed necessary (e.g., in hearings, field situations, crisis intervention, training experiences).
Serves as unit leader over Probation and Parole Officers in absence of the Supervisor – Adult.
Works cases in sheriffs’ maintenance programs, work release programs, and community residential programs (half-way houses).
Conducts support activities for the department’s IMPACT program.
Ensures activities comply with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards.
Assist in jail operation audits and disciplinary hearings for adult inmates in CRCs.
Make decisions regarding the application of Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT).
Perform contract compliance audits for Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRC).
Assist in coordinating instructors for POST academy classes and in-service training.
Schedule and conduct pre-academy firearms requirements; conduct firearm and defensive tactics training in POST academy and in-service classes.
Coordinate and evaluate tactical training; work with outside agencies for instructors and training facilities.
Provide a broad range of programmatic support for the Probation and Parole Program Manager – Adult or District Manager – Adult.
Assist in developing program objectives and plans, implements and evaluates strategies to meet program goals.
Assist in assessing statewide program impact and provide recommendations regarding policy.
Provide technical assistance to private providers operating contracted programs.
Work with Probation and Parole Officers 1, 2, 3, P&P Supervisors, P&P Program Managers, Administrative Program Managers.
