The Role Do you have passion and experience using geographic information systems (GIS)? Join us as our
senior classification system specialist
in Salem. We are looking for a dedicated individual to compile and maintain our transportation system data. You will lead updates to transportation networks to accurately and completely convey transportation system changes. A Day In The Life
Create and maintain GIS products for the state transportation network.
Maintain spatial and tabular information about the transportation system in Oregon.
Interpret federal guidelines and apply them to change requests.
Obtain federal aid road designation approvals from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
Edit transportation asset and network data.
Track and analyze data and prepare technical correspondence and reports.
Select data sources and determine reliability and accuracy of data.
Provide technical guidance on maintenance and updates of transportation systems data.
Coordinate and review the production, validation and distribution of data products.
Collaborate on cross-functional teams to present options, voice concerns and develop solutions.
Produce and present information internally and to federal, state, local agencies and the public.
Work is performed in a typical office with hybrid work options available. One day a week in office required but may be more depending on business needs.

The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by 6%.

Minimum Qualifications Five years of experience in the field of engineering in geographic information systems; OR An associate degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and three years of engineering technician experience in geographic information systems; OR A bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and two years of engineering technician experience in geographic information systems; OR An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
What We’d Like To See
Proven knowledge of functional classifications, the National Highway System (NHS) and the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS).
Demonstrated experience with roadway inventory systems, using databases or ArcGIS mapping tools.
Demonstrated experience in using GIS to manage spatial and tabular data, to analyze data and to produce reports and maps.
Demonstrated experience writing database queries or using other database reporting tools, including using structured query language (SQL).
Demonstrated experience using advanced verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas and information.
