Job Summary Through the AmeriCorps Texas grant program, Texas Southmost College (TSC) will have AmeriCorps members who will 1) increase communication about and access to campus resources and support and 2) increase engagement in campus activities and with academic support services at TSC in Brownsville, Texas. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increasing TSC students’, who ewer served by the program, fall-to-spring persistence rate to 75% and fall-to-fall persistence rate of 63%.

Responsibilities Objective of the Assignment: To help increase engagement with the Student Coaches in campus activities and with academic support services. Help plan and implement coaching, financial aid, and registration events with students. E.g., Field-based activities, instead of a focus at the Welcome Desk. Assist students in applying for admission to TSC and scheduling and leading informational classroom visits. Guide students to the right areas around campus when checking in at the welcome desk. Show students how to register online or how to pay fees/tuition online, print student IDs, etc. Develop informational videos and resources for students on how to use TSC online advising services. Assist in coordinating and implementing outreach efforts for student services, e.g., Welcome Week, campus events, conferences, webinars, etc. to disseminate knowledge of college procedures and policies to students. Measures of the Assignment: Number of students who attend coaching, Financial Aid, and Registration Events co-organized and implemented by the AmeriCorps member, and: Persist to end of term or completion of program (short-term outcome). Register for and attend following term: Winter/Spring from Fall or Summer/Fall from Spring (mid-term outcome). Register for and attend the term starting one year from initial point of capture or complete their program (mid-term outcome). Number of students who register online or pay campus fees/tuition online, under the guidance or supervision of an AmeriCorps member, and: Persist to end of term or completion of program (short-term outcome).
