Overview

Through the AmeriCorps Texas grant program, Texas Southmost College (TSC) will have AmeriCorps members who will 1) increase communication about and access to campus resources and support and 2) increase engagement in campus activities and with academic support services at TSC in Brownsville, Texas. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increasing TSC students who were served by the program’s fall-to-spring persistence rate to 75% and fall-to-fall persistence rate to 63%.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Objective of the Assignment: Assist students who are inquiring about programs to increase communication about and access to campus resources and support. Answer phone calls and emails from students inquiring about programs of study in degree pursuits. Participate in recruitment events, job fairs, and programs of study (e.g., pipe fitting program or welding program). Assist in coordinating and implementing outreach efforts for student services, such as Welcome Week, campus events, conferences, and webinars, to disseminate knowledge of college procedures and policies to students. Measures of the Assignment: Number of students who receive personalized communication about registration or applications for WTCE programs and who register for the program/classes (short-term outcome) and who complete the program (mid-term outcome).
