The City of Madisonville, Texas, is seeking an exceptional professional to serve as its next City Manager, overseeing a vibrant community known for its small-town charm and strong community pride.

The Community

Madisonville, founded in 1853 and named after President James Madison, is a welcoming community with small-town charm and convenient access to major Texas cities. The city is known for its laid‑back lifestyle, strong community pride, and abundant recreation opportunities. With a population of 4,630, it is the county seat of Madison County and sits at the intersection of I‑45, SH 21, and SH 75, making it a midpoint between Dallas, Houston, and Austin. In 2005, the Texas Legislature proclaimed Madisonville the "Mushroom Capital of Texas."

The city boasts a family‑friendly environment, excellent schools, and a strong sense of pride. Residents enjoy a variety of events such as the Annual Texas Mushroom Festival, the Mudbug & Music Festival, Madison County Fair, Hispanic Heritage Festival, Fly‑In & Car Show, Blues Brews & BBQ, and the annual Christmas Parade. Outdoor enthusiasts take advantage of Lake Madison, Marian Anderson Park, and nearby hunting and fishing destinations, while golfers enjoy Fannin Oaks Country Club.

The Position The City of Madisonville delivers a wide range of municipal services, including infrastructure, utilities, parks, and public safety, all under the leadership of the City Manager. Reporting to the Mayor and City Council, the City Manager will:

Provide fiscal leadership and oversee the City's $9.2 M budget

Lead a staff of 49 FTEs across multiple departments

Advance strategic priorities in infrastructure, drainage, and economic development

Oversee grant funding and capital projects such as water/sewer improvements, street reconstruction, and airport expansion

Build strong relationships with community stakeholders and County partners

The City Manager ensures accountability, develops innovative funding solutions, and fosters a collaborative organizational culture.

Education & Experience (Required)

Bachelor's degree in public administration, political science, business, finance, or related field

Minimum of eight years in municipal government, with at least three years in a department director, Assistant City Manager, or City Manager role

Strong financial management and budgeting skills

Residency within Madison County

Education & Experience (Preferred)

Master's in Public Administration

Three to five years in an executive municipal leadership role

ICMA‑CM or Certified Public Manager credential highly desired

Experience in grant writing/administration, strategic planning, community development, and team leadership

Compensation: $175,000 - $190,000 DOE/DOQ
