About the Organization / Opportunity:
Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit organization, is seeking a CFO who can excel in both daily accounting operations and strategic finance leadership roles. This position offers the rare opportunity to be hands‑on with core accounting functions while also collaborating directly with executives on long‑term organizational direction. The ideal candidate has a strong grounding in nonprofit or mission‑based finance, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and is motivated to align resources with the organization’s goals.
Responsibilities:
Manage day‑to‑day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
Develop financial strategies, performance benchmarks, and internal controls to safeguard assets.
Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, statements, and presentations for leadership and external stakeholders.
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range financial planning. Monitor cash flow, debt service, and risk management.
Partner with executives and department leaders to align financial resources with strategic priorities.
Support audits, insurance programs, capital projects, and financing processes.
Lead finance and IT functions, focusing on process improvements and systems oversight.
Maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, and other external partners.
Must-Have Skills:
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and nonprofit financial management.
Proven ability to manage accounting operations while contributing to executive‑level discussions.
CPA or CMA designation strongly preferred.
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Prior experience in nonprofit or mission‑driven organizations.
Familiarity with advanced financial tools or SQL‑based systems.
Experience in risk management and strategic financial planning.
Comfort balancing tactical accounting tasks with higher‑level strategy.
