Objective The Product Engineer (PE) will partner with a Product Manager to successfully manage and grow their product line in an entrepreneurial environment within AutomationDirect. The PE is the product subject matter expert and works with suppliers on all technical aspects of product development, evaluation, new product introduction, and support through the product life cycle. Primary product ownership includes enclosures and enclosure thermal management. The PE is a servant leader and works cross functionally with internal and external teams.

Responsibilities

Leverage your experience and product knowledge to select and assist in the development of the best products to grow the product line and meet customers’ needs

Product ownership throughout the product life cycle

Evaluate and test new products and technologies

Support product through new product introductions, documentation, training, and second tier backline support (only during normal business hours)

Life-cycle projects to improve product quality or lower product cost

Supplier evaluation including product offering, technology roadmap, and support capabilities

Some scheduled domestic and international travel is required

Qualifications

Requires education in technical discipline with preference for BS in mechanical or electrical engineering or at least 10 years of related experience.

Requires 6 years' experience (10 years preferred) in industrial control & automation market or OEM/manufacturing of enclosure or thermal management products. Preferred experience includes working knowledge of enclosures and thermal management product application, control system integration, configuration, technical support, and/or product design.

Experience with industrial control products such as PLCs, HMIs, process instrumentation, sensors, safety, power products or signaling is desirable.

Experience with agency approvals (UL, CSA, CE, RoHS, etc.) is desirable.

Experience with CAD such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc. is desirable.

Must possess self-confidence, organizational skills, time management skills and excellent communication skills.

Must also be self-starter that is able to work on and manage projects independently, meet deadlines and have excellent interpersonal skills.
