Overview Senior Accountant/Accountant Trainee 1/2 – Albany (NY HELPS)

Responsibilities

Review and analyze program expenses versus available funding for assigned program areas on a monthly basis;

Initiate a more detailed review of program spending to determine the cause of over or under spending issues;

Prepare projections for funding, spending, supportable positions, and year‑end financial status of assigned programs;

Post journal entries, prepare reports and account reconciliation.

Qualifications

NY HELPS Non‑Competitive Minimum Qualifications – Accountant Trainee 1 A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.

Accountant Trainee 2 A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles. Substitution

- A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation may substitute for one year of experience.

Senior Accountant A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles. Substitution

- A master's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles or a currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State.

Preferred Qualifications Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
